Proof the anointed aren't being resurrected yet.....
by EndofMysteries inthe society teaches that since around 1919 the anointed who have died and do die, are resurrected as spirit creatures.
the only one to be resurrected as a spirit that is documented in the bible is jesus.
when jesus was resurrected, did he appear to his disciples yet his body was still buried?

April 2014 WT is up, more attacks on career and unbelieving family!
by EndofMysteries inhere are some highlights from the magazine.
the first article, "imitate the faith of moses", teaches how moses didn't remain in pharohs court, they then skillfully spin getting a decent paying job and career as equaling "enjoyment of sin", and how those who have "enjoyment of sin" will die at armageddon with everyone else who enjoys their job.
here are some quotes from the article.... "when tempted to engage in sinful conduct, ask, what future do i want for myself?....

"The apostle Paul directed that when older Christians cannot make ends meet, their children and grandchildren should “repay their parents and grandparents what is due them."
This is quite disturbing as it is but another such statement in a new chain of them which say children should be providing for their old parents. Someone else made a point about this coming out in a recent WT study. It also resonates with many of our posters' personal experiences of elderly parents with nothing wanting to move in with or be supported by the non-JW children who've gone off and made good financial decisions, like Confused and Alone. I see in this that the GB/Org is noticing that people who've been pioneering for decades and who have nothing because of it are falling on hard times as they age and 'the new system' hasn't come. They are therefore telling the younger JWs to step into the breach and clear up their messes. This is gonna be hard for the youngsters though as the org is ramping up the anti-education rhetoric. Oh my.

Topics not often discussed now
by jdubsnub inwhen i was a kid in the early 90's there always seemed to be a mention of how demons posessing people or how if you saw a demon or something supernatural occuring mearly calling jehovah's name would rid you of the situation.
rarely now a days do you hear anything of the sort.
that got me to thinking, what are some other topics the society has backed off of?

What about the kooky artwork in the 80's books like Bible Stories and Live forever? Man, I'm glad they got away from that style. I don't even know what it's called.

It always threw me when I was in JWs when they'd give the experience of some sister who got beaten to a pulp for 20-30 years before the husband became a JW. My first thought was, WTF didn't she go straight to the police?

Well my JW elder dad has lost his job...
by BU2B inas a little background, my dad became a jw in 1980 i think, went to bethel, married my mom in 86' went back for another year and then i came along... he worked in the auto repair shop at bethel while he was there, and upon leaving, continued working in this field.
my whole life they have been the type of jw parents that tell you how you will never get to high school, never graduate it, never get married in this system, never have children in this system etc.. i say this to illustrate the end is just around the corner attitude they have always had, probably because they fully bought/buy into the hype at the conventions/wt articles.
my father has no plan in place for retirement, and he is physically slowing down doing such hard laborious work.

That's it eh Smiddy. They reap what they sow. They've made all these 'sacrifices' so maybe they will notice when 'Jehovah' leaves them high and dry.

They'll have more international conventions and 'special conventions' than they used to because they drastically mark up the travel costs...oh, they already do that. Then they'll ask you to donate estate jewellery and shares and items of value...they already do that too! Next they'll pass around the collection plate or collect a tithe.

Depression, Medication, and Other Grey Areas
by startingover13 inone thing that i have noticed in my dealings with a lot of women in the congregation are deep, intense feelings of insecurity and worthlessness.
i use the term "worthlessness" very loosely because it can apply to many different situations, in the congregation, in the home, personally, etc.
over the years, and especially over the past 6 years, i've met sisters from all walks of life.

That being said, like LongHairGal, I converted young rather than was born in, and I too never really thought of myself as less-than because I was a woman. It used to get to me, all that crap about submission and that, but towards the end of my cult life it really did wear down my confidence. I always saw myself the equal of any man, and treated them like equals and not superiors. I was always the female friend for hanging out, but not the love interest. An older brother told me I'd find it hard to get married because I'm educated and speak very freely. He was right: the JW guys who didn't view me as one of the boys ran a mile!

Yes, it creates low self esteem in women by putting them down all the time. There are constant reminders that a woman is to be subject to the men and quietly submissive. Her role is to be an appendage to the man. She is always told that she is the 'weak feminine vessel' who should always be in awe and respect of her husband's manly leadership, organisational and logical skills. She can't trust her own thoughts or feelings because she's a weak woman, created for the sake of the man. Also remember ladies, Eve was deceived and not Adam, because women are dumber than men!
There is no encouragement to have a career or do what you need to be happy (which applies to men and women) and it's hard for women because where men can compensate for their low status in life by becoming elders or the guy who holds the microphone, women are told they should be happy scrubbing the dunnies at the KH and cooking for their husbands. They have a natural talent for organising? No, don't become a manager, teacher, lawyer- pioneer. Have a talent for art? Don't become an artist or graphic or fashion designer. Pioneer. Love life and science? Don't go do that science degree to become a biologist or vet. Love history? Wrack your brain for ways to reconcile real history with watchtower history- no, Pioneer! You won't have time to worry about useless studies that don't result in more Hours.
Get a job cleaning. Have sex with your husband. Pioneer. Do more. Dress like this. Don't have kids. Have kids but raise them like this. Do more. Get married. Don't get married. Pioneer. Do more. Do more. You're not doing enough. Don't be yourself. Don't speak out.
Hey, I know, because I'm the JW woman who landed on the meds and lost her confidence after years of hearing this crapola.

As for your questions about wealthy JWs and education, no they would cop a lot of flack for being 'materialistic' by some, and sending their kids to university would preclude them from any position in the congregation just like the kid of a poor family going to uni. There are very few wealthy JWs anyway, and they've usually gotten wealthy through education or hard work in business, and are looked down upon for that. I'm sure though in some congregations there is a lot of Simony and rich JWs get sucked up to. Generally though, university and wealth are an indicator that one is not very spiritual, since they've spent time building their businesses or getting their careers that should have been used witnessing.
Really though, such traits as being jealous of richer people and wanting to tear them down, or wanting to suck up to them/treat them as if they're better than everyone else or give favours in exchange for some financial benefit is common to most humans. It's not just JWs in which you will find kids shunning their parents then expecting to be the beneficiaries of the will. You won't just find Simony in JWs, or judging those who have more than you or go to university. You will find that in every group of people.
